A half-day tour of the ancient and modern city of Muscat. Get to know the mystical charm of Muscat that boasts a rich legacy spanning centuries.
Starting point: The tour commences with a visit to the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque at Bausher. The towering mosque, opened in 2001, is an exquisite modern structure that celebrates the magnificence and glory of sublime Omani-Islamic architecture.
The Grand Mosque is open to visitors between 08:00–11:00 Hrs on all days except Fridays and holidays. Proper dress code needs to be followed, which means modest clothes covering arms and legs, and head scarf for women; and normal decent dress for men, which includes shirt and trousers.
The next destination is the world famous Royal Opera House, Muscat (ROHM) in Shati al Qurm.
From here we head to the newly designed Fish & Vegetables Market in Muttrah. Just across the street is the famous and ancient Muttrah Souq. The ancient and the modern coexist here in perfect harmony. You find rare and authentic Omani handicrafts, ethnic dresses and exquisite Omani fragrances here.
Enjoy the view of the turquoise waters of the Gulf of Oman, with ships and dhows anchored,from the Corniche before proceeding to the Sultan’s Palace. You also see the 16th Century Portuguese forts of Jalali and Mirani here. A great place for selfies and photo-shoots.
Next on the itinerary is the renowned Bait Al Zubair Museum, where you get a glimpse of the great Omani culture and history.
