Fanja is the first city belonging to the Dhakhliya region on our journey from Muscat. See the majestic Wadi and the amazing Hajar mountain range, and the date palm trees—a lot of them. The major varieties of dates grown in Fanja include Naghal, Fardh, Handhal, Khanizi, Mabsali, and Khasab.

The castles (Al Sharqi, Al Bomah, Al Khatum and Kaid) add to the beauty of the place. Several traditional irrigation canals still function, and they enthrall visitors. Significantly, the East and West Hamam hot water aflaj are considered to have medicinal properties that can cure skin diseases.

The ruins of old cannons indicate its strategic defense role in the past.

Fanja pottery is famous, and the traditionally made clay pots and jars are used for decorative purposes and also for household use. People from Fanja and neighbouring villages visit the traditional souq to buy these pottery products.

Fanja is at its best between October – April, when you can enjoy a pleasant warm weather. Evenings are cooler. The temperature swings between 25 and 35 degrees during the day. But nights are amazing with temperature below 20 degrees.

Fanja has a fertile soil that is conducive to growing date palms. The village is characterized by its largely rocky terrain, with lots of water canals and date palms in between.

Next, we take you to the enchanting Wadi Tayyin that greets you with its crystal clear, pure waters. Located deep inside a mountain, the wadi waters hold a special charm. Rejuvenate yourself with a cool afternoon dip. After picnic lunch, you can soak in a little more of the village beauty before heading back to Muscat in the late afternoon.
